Introduction

Adrian Campbell is a developing point guard continuing to expand his game at Hills Academy in Conyers, Georgia. Standing at 5'10" as part of the Class of 2027, Campbell is coming off a strong season in which he averaged 21.5 points, seven assists, and three rebounds per game. His defensive intensity, leadership, and ability to run the point guard position have positioned him for continued growth as he works toward creating opportunities to play at the college level.

Background

Campbell's basketball journey began when he was four years old. He would play with his uncles and cousins in his grandparents' backyard. His mom eventually signed him up to play organized basketball in fifth grade. That is when he began taking the game more seriously and competing on AAU teams. Since then, Campbell has continued to develop his game and establish himself as a productive player. Last season, Hills Academy finished 25–6, with Campbell playing an important role in the team’s success.

Development

His commitment to improvement extends beyond his team's practices. Campbell currently trains with his athletic director, Jacob Hoke, focusing heavily on speed and agility work. He also works with his AAU coach, Coach Goolsby, who puts him through a variety of dribbling drills. When he is not training with a coach, Campbell continues to work on his own, using online videos and creating drills for himself.

As he looks to become a more complete player, Campbell is focused on improving his basketball IQ and developing a better understanding of how to control a game from the point guard position. His biggest strength on the court is his defense. He takes pride in guarding 94 feet, an approach Coach Goolsby helped instill in him. One challenge Campbell has faced is seeing other players in his class gain exposure and recognition. Rather than becoming discouraged, he has used it as motivation to continue working toward those same opportunities.

Influences

Campbell's biggest influence has been his high school coach, Coach Summerville, whom he has known the longest and considers family. Coach Goolsby has also played an important role since beginning to work with Campbell in eighth grade, while Coach Hoke has helped connect him with coaches and provide opportunities to attend college camps. Together, those relationships have continued to shape Campbell's development both on and off the court.

Goals

After high school, Campbell hopes to continue his basketball career at the college level while studying sports medicine. He is particularly interested in Kennesaw State and Georgia Southern because of their sports medicine programs. Over the next year, Campbell wants to earn more college offers, gain additional exposure, become a better all-around player, and continue developing mentally. Long-term, he hopes to play professionally, either overseas or in the NBA.

Closing

In August, Campbell attended the High School All-American Showcase in Atlanta, Georgia, where he enjoyed the opportunity to compete in front of college coaches. He also appreciated the realistic drills and how they translated to situations he could encounter during games. Campbell adjusted quickly to new teammates by learning their names and understanding their strengths. For the coaches and scouts in attendance, he hopes they noticed his leadership, defensive intensity, and ability to run the point guard position. With his continued work ethic and focus on becoming a smarter player, Adrian Campbell is looking to turn his production and defensive mindset into opportunities at the next level.
