Player Spotlight: August Simmons Is Focused on Proving Himself at the Next Level
By Jake Sands, September 4, 2026
Introduction
August Simmons is a young point guard from Boston, Massachusetts, who is already focused on establishing himself as a high-level player. Standing at 5'10" as part of the Class of 2030, Simmons has developed a strong passion for basketball and continues to put in the work to improve his game. With shooting and ball-handling as two of his biggest strengths, Simmons is working to establish himself as a complete point guard.

Background
August started playing basketball at a young age and fell in love with the game by watching his dad play and following the NBA. That early exposure helped build his passion for the sport and motivated him to continue developing as a player. This season, Simmons played a major role in helping his school team win most of its games, giving him valuable experience as he continues to grow as a player.
Development
His work ethic extends well beyond game days. During the season, August starts each morning with a workout and attends team practice after school. Once practice is over, he makes sure to stretch and focus on recovery. During the offseason, he takes his training to another level, working out in the gym or on the basketball court two to three times a day. That commitment has allowed him to continue refining his skills while preparing himself for the challenges ahead.
Influences
One of the biggest challenges Simmons has faced was having a coach who did not believe in him. Rather than allowing that experience to hold him back, it taught him an important lesson: no one can believe in him more than he believes in himself. His biggest influence has been his sixth-grade travel team coach, Coach Paup, who gave him the freedom to play his game and helped him develop confidence on the court. That experience continues to shape the way Simmons approaches the game today.
Goals
Looking ahead, Simmons wants to continue developing into a complete guard. He will be attending CATS Academy in Braintree, MA and will be playing within the varsity basketball program. Rebounding is the biggest area of his game that he wants to improve, while his shooting and dribbling remain his biggest strengths. After high school, August hopes to play Division I college basketball. Some of his top schools of choice include Kentucky, Arkansas, Boston College, and Rutgers. Over the next year, his main goal is to prove that he can be a guard at a high level. Long-term, he hopes to continue playing basketball professionally at whatever level he can.
Closing
In May, August participated in the High School All-American Showcase in Boston, Massachusetts, competing against other talented high school athletes. He enjoyed the experience and the chance to test himself against strong competition. For the college coaches and scouts in attendance, Simmons hopes they noticed his ability to run the offense, handle the ball, and create opportunities from the point guard position. With his continued commitment to training and development, August Simmons is determined to keep building his game and proving what he can become.
