Introduction

Bentlee Robertson is a young shooting guard from Cleveland, Alabama, who has already made an impact at the varsity level at Cleveland High School. Standing at 6'1" as part of the Class of 2030, Robertson scored 423 points last season after becoming a varsity starter in eighth grade and earning an honorable mention for All-County. With his three-point shooting and passing among his biggest strengths, Robertson is focused on taking on an even bigger role as he works toward becoming one of the best players in Alabama.

Background

Robertson first started playing basketball at five years old after his parents bought him a plastic basketball. He quickly fell in love with the sport and never wanted to put the ball down. His development accelerated when he was moved up to the varsity team at the end of seventh grade. After making an immediate impact last season, Robertson is entering the new year with high expectations. He hopes to help lead Cleveland to a state championship while earning First Team All-Area honors.

Development

His development has also come with increased responsibility. During the season, Robertson trains once a week, while AAU basketball gives him additional competition and development opportunities in the offseason. As his role has grown, so has the pressure placed on him to score when his team needs it. Rather than shying away from that responsibility, Robertson embraces the challenge and understands that his teammates and coaches are counting on him to make an impact. He is also focused on improving his mid-range shooting and ability to drive to the basket as he looks to become a more versatile offensive player.

Influences

Two of the biggest influences on Robertson's development have been his trainer, Hosie Seal, and his high school coach, Dylan Young. Seal consistently challenges Robertson while emphasizing the importance of footwork and how it can enhance his overall game. Coach Young has also played a major role in Robertson's development, moving him up to varsity at the end of seventh grade and continuing to push him to improve. Their guidance has helped Robertson develop his skills while building the confidence to take on a larger role.

Goals

After high school, Robertson dreams of playing Division I basketball, with the University of North Carolina and the University of Alabama among the schools that interest him. North Carolina stands out to him because of its emphasis on pushing players to become the best they can be, while Alabama appeals to him for its focus on being a great teammate and person. Over the next year, Robertson wants to become one of the best players in the state of Alabama and one of the top players in his class. Long term, his goal is to play professionally in the NBA. One NBA player he looks up to is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for his ability to control the flow of the game and get to his spots with ease.

Closing

In August, Robertson attended the High School All-American Showcase in Birmingham, Alabama. He enjoyed the level of competition and called it one of the best camps he has attended. The experience also gave him an opportunity to play with new teammates and meet more players. Robertson adjusted comfortably to his new teammates and found ways to contribute to the group. For the coaches and scouts in attendance, he hopes they noticed his shooting, passing, and positive attitude on the court. With his varsity experience and willingness to embrace greater responsibility, Bentlee Robertson is looking to build on his production and establish himself as one of the players to watch in the Class of 2030.
