Player Spotlight: Kingsten Pitts Is Embracing His Transition to Point Guard
By Jake Sands, October 13, 2026
Introduction
Kingsten Pitts is a developing guard from Valley, Alabama, who is focused on expanding his game as he enters high school basketball. Standing at 5'9" as part of the Class of 2030 at Valley High School, Pitts has already gained experience playing against different levels of competition. With ball-handling and court vision among his biggest strengths, Pitts is working to become a more complete player and create opportunities for himself at the next level.
Background
Pitts first started playing basketball at four years old and began competing in recreational leagues when he was six. Watching NBA highlights and seeing the passion professional players have for the game inspired him to take basketball more seriously. Last season, his middle school team finished with an 11-3 record before Pitts was moved up to the junior varsity team midway through the season. Pitts had the most assists on the team and was awarded as the best defensive player. Now, he hopes to earn a starting role on the varsity team, gain more exposure, and find ways to help Valley High School succeed.
Development
His commitment to development continues throughout the year. During the season, Pitts visits his local sports complex on Tuesdays and Thursdays to work with his trainer. He also plays AAU basketball for VIP Royalty during the offseason, giving him additional opportunities to compete and develop his skills. One of the biggest challenges in his development has been transitioning from a spot-up shooter to the point guard position. That adjustment has required Pitts to become more comfortable creating for others and taking on greater responsibility with the ball. As he continues to grow into the position, he is focused on improving his physicality and becoming a stronger defender.
Influences
Two of the biggest influences on Pitts' development have been his trainer, Dante Wade, and his high school coach, Robert Cotton. Wade has worked with Pitts from fourth to seventh grade before he started AAU. He has helped him develop his basketball skills and become a more well-rounded player. Coach Cotton has also played an important role by motivating Pitts to improve every day and continue pushing himself. Their guidance has helped Pitts understand the importance of consistent work as he adjusts to the demands of playing point guard.
Goals
After high school, Pitts hopes to continue his basketball career at the college level, with Auburn University among the schools that interest him. Over the next year, he wants to become a better all-around player while gaining more attention from college coaches. Long term, Pitts dreams of playing professionally, either in the NBA or overseas. One NBA player he looks up to is Kyrie Irving. Pitts admires Irving's ball-handling ability and his ability to get teammates involved. Pitts hopes to continue developing those same qualities while building his own style of play.
Closing
In August, Pitts attended the High School All-American Showcase in Birmingham, Alabama, where he enjoyed the opportunity to compete and learn from the coaches involved. He especially valued the advice they provided on how to recognize and correct mistakes during games. Pitts also adjusted quickly to new teammates by learning their playing styles. For the coaches and scouts in attendance, he hopes they noticed his court vision and ability to create opportunities for his teammates. As Kingsten Pitts continues to develop as a playmaker, he is focused on becoming a player who can lead an offense, bring his teammates into the game, and make a difference on the court.
