Introduction

Will McKnight is a young power forward from Washington Township, New Jersey, who is already focused on developing into an impactful player. Standing at 5'8" as part of the Class of 2030, McKnight has developed a strong passion for basketball since first picking up the sport five years ago. With defense and the ability to attack the basket among his biggest strengths, McKnight is working to become a more complete player.

Background

McKnight started playing basketball five years ago while playing recreationally with friends. What started as something fun soon became a passion as he began practicing more to see how good he could become. After playing multiple sports throughout his childhood, basketball is the one that has stuck with him.

Development

McKnight's development has been driven by his willingness to put in the work both during the season and in the offseason. During the season, he practices several times a week with a focus on his ball-handling, shooting, and free throws. When the offseason arrives, he continues building his game through clinics and skill camps. Those opportunities give him a chance to sharpen his fundamentals while gaining more experience against different competition.

Influences

One of McKnight's biggest influences has been his assistant coach, who has consistently believed in him and helped him build confidence in his abilities. His head coach has also played an important role in his development by helping McKnight understand how he can make an impact during games. Their guidance has given him a better understanding of what he can bring to the court and encouraged him to continue working toward his potential.

Goals

After high school, McKnight hopes to continue playing basketball at the highest level he can reach. His dream school is LSU, and he is focused on developing the skills necessary to create opportunities for himself as he progresses through his basketball journey. Over the next year, McKnight wants to improve his free-throw shooting. Long-term, his goal is to continue developing his skills and become the type of player opposing teams have to prepare for.

Closing

In March, McKnight attended the High School All-American Showcase in Manalapan, New Jersey. He enjoyed the opportunity to compete against other top players from across the state. The experience also gave him a chance to challenge himself against older competition and gain valuable exposure. As an eighth-grader competing against high school players, McKnight hopes the coaches and scouts in attendance noticed his hustle and ability to make an impact on the court. With his defensive ability, willingness to attack the basket, and commitment to improving his game, Will McKnight is focused on building the foundation for what comes next.
