Background

Esler started playing basketball in 5th grade, and he has fallen in love with the game ever since. His path hasn’t been without challenges, though, as he was cut from the school team during his freshman year. That gave him the drive to work even harder and become the best player he can be.

Development

This season, Esler played an important role coming off the bench for his junior varsity team, contributing to a successful year while continuing to develop his skill set. He always arrives early to practice so he can get extra shots up and stays later to continue shooting as well as work on ball-handling and conditioning. In the offseason, he continues to elevate his training through individual work and AAU competition, aiming to take the next step in his development.

Influences

Esler attributes much of his development to the leadership he has received from his coaches throughout his various seasons. Most recently, he shared that his AAU coaches; Coach Rolando Alviso, Coach Barr, and Coach Collum as they have pushed and continue to push him to reach a new level in his game. Their consistent accountability, constructive feedback, and commitment to his growth have played a defining role in shaping his competitive mindset and overall approach to the sport this season that is off to a great.

Goals

Looking ahead, Esler wants to play college basketball, and he is open to any opportunity he can get, whether it is Division I, II, or III. Over the next year, his goals are to improve his basketball IQ, decision-making, ball-handling, finishing ability, explosiveness, and conditioning. His biggest strength right now is his shooting, both from mid-range and three, but he is still determined to become a more well-rounded player. Long term, he hopes to play professionally, whether that path leads to the NBA or overseas, while becoming a player who can consistently contribute to a team’s success.

Closing

In March, Esler competed in the High School All‑American Showcase in Dallas, Texas, where he embraced the chance to learn, grow, and measure himself against top athletes from across the country. He valued the coaches’ hands‑on approach, especially their emphasis on communication, defensive awareness, and elevating each player’s understanding of the game. Esler quickly adapted to new teammates by staying vocal, learning their tendencies, and helping the group improve with each possession. His focus throughout the event was to demonstrate his effort, unselfishness, and ability to get others involved.

Equally important to him is the work he puts in off the court. Esler understands that success as an athlete requires discipline as a student, and he takes pride in maintaining strong grades while balancing training, travel, and competition. His commitment to improving in the classroom and on the court reflects the accountability and focus he brings to every part of his development. With his work ethic, maturity, and willingness to grow, Kenneth Esler continues to build a strong foundation for long‑term success. His performance earned him an invitation to a summer invitational event which will feature the top players from all U.S. showcases.
