Player Spotlight: Garrett Brown Builds His Game Through Consistency and Hard Work

By Jake Sands, June 12, 2026

Introduction

Garrett Brown is a promising guard/forward continuing to build his game at Halifax High School in Halifax, Pennsylvania. Standing at 6'2" as part of the Class of 2029, Brown has already shown strong potential early in his high school career, using every opportunity as motivation to improve and become a more complete player. Brown prides himself on his mental toughness, work ethic, and willingness to continue developing every aspect of his game.

Background

Originally from Halifax, Pennsylvania, Brown started playing basketball at a very young age after his mother introduced him to the sport. She encouraged him to explore different sports growing up, but basketball quickly became the one that stood out to him most. Since then, Brown has stayed committed to improving and chasing his long-term goals in the game.

Development

This season, Brown was on his school's junior varsity team, splitting time between starting and coming off the bench. He helped contribute to a successful season and felt the team developed strong chemistry throughout the year. During the season, Brown trains three days a week. In the mornings, he works on dribbling and finishing. After school, he goes to the weight room to work on either chest, lower body, or back. Afterward, he goes to the gym to get shots up and do skill workouts focused on shooting and finishing from different areas on the court. In the offseason, he keeps the same routine and has more time to develop his own skills so he can continue improving for his team moving forward. One challenge Brown faced early on was limited playing time, but instead of getting discouraged, he used it as motivation to continue working and gain confidence in himself as a player.

Influences

Brown credits much of his development to his trainer, Aaron Yancey, who has helped him improve his shooting form and finishing ability over the years. Brown believes Yancey has played a major role in helping him become the player he is today. Currently, he is focused on improving his decision-making and playmaking abilities. He believes his biggest strength is his mental toughness and ability to stay composed after mistakes.

Goals

Looking ahead, Brown hopes to play Division I college basketball after high school. Some schools that interest him include Kansas, Duke, and Kentucky, all known for having great basketball programs. Over the next year, his goals are to stay consistent with his routine, continue elevating his game, and improve his ability to get teammates involved offensively. Long-term, Brown hopes to play professionally in the NBA or overseas. One player he looks up to is Jared McCain because of his work ethic, consistency, and mental composure throughout his basketball journey.

Closing

In April, Brown attended the High School All-American Showcase in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to gain exposure in front of college coaches. The coaches helped him learn about what he could improve on and how he can elevate his game. The event also showed him the intensity and competitiveness required to succeed at the college level. For the coaches and scouts in attendance, he hopes they noticed his hustle, rebounding ability, and willingness to facilitate the offense and make plays for his teammates. As he continues developing his game, Garrett Brown is a name to watch in the Class of 2029.
