Background

Haugh began playing basketball in the first grade, and by the time he reached third grade, he knew the sport was something he wanted to pursue long-term. Introduced to the game by his father, he has built a strong foundation rooted in passion and consistency, which continues to drive his development today.

Development

This season, Haugh was a starter on varsity and helped his team improve from the previous season. He averaged 10 points and 4 rebounds per game, while shooting an efficient 51% from the field and 40% from three-point range, along with recording two double-doubles. His development is fueled by consistent work, including daily practices during the season and additional time in the gym to improve his shooting and ball-handling. In the offseason, he elevates his training with extended sessions focused on becoming quicker, more skilled, and more complete as a player.

Influences

Haugh credits his father and his current coach, Zach McDaniel, as his biggest influences. Both of them have pushed him to improve and guided him on what he needs to work on. They have emphasized playing lower on defense, getting to his spots offensively, and not being afraid of contact when attacking the basket. He also draws inspiration from NBA players like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Russell Westbrook, and Kevin Durant. Gilgeous-Alexander stands out because of his elite scoring and ability to draw fouls, and Westbrook because of his motor.

Goals

Once his high school career is over, Haugh wants to play college basketball. He would like to play Division I, but is open to any opportunity he gets. Over the next year, he aims to increase his production to 15 points and 7 rebounds per game, while also earning his first college offer. On the court, he is working to improve his ball-handling while continuing to rely on his strengths of running the floor and scoring in transition. Long-term, he hopes to play professionally, whether that path leads to the NBA or overseas, driven by his commitment to giving maximum effort every time he steps on the court.

Closing

In April, Haugh competed at the High School All-American Showcase in Kansas City, Missouri, where he embraced the opportunity to face strong competition and learn new skills. He especially valued the ball-handling drills and the chance to expand his game. Most importantly, he wanted to showcase his defense, shooting ability, and communication on the court to coaches and scouts in attendance. With his efficiency, work ethic, and drive to improve, Aidan Haugh is continuing to build toward a promising future in basketball.
