Background

Thompson started playing basketball just four years ago, after his father introduced him to the game. He fell in love with the sport after watching highlights of NBA great LeBron James, whose all-around style of play inspired Thompson to pursue the sport seriously. Despite starting later than many players, he has embraced the challenge and committed himself to improving.

Development

This past season, Thompson played on the junior varsity team, splitting time between the starting lineup and coming off the bench. He averaged 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals per game, showing his ability to contribute across multiple areas. His development is driven by consistency, with team practices throughout the week combined with weightlifting and skill training. In the offseason, he builds on that foundation by increasing his focus on strength training while continuing to refine his overall skill set.

Influences

Thompson credits his trainer, Adrian Maloney, and his strength coach as key influences in his development. His trainer has helped sharpen his basketball skills, while his weight training coach has helped him prepare his body to compete at a higher level. He also looks up to players like LeBron James, Dennis Rodman, and Kyrie Irving, drawing inspiration from their unique strengths and styles of play. Rodman stands out because of his rebounding and defense, and Irving because of his ball-handling.

Goals

After high school, Thompson wants to continue playing basketball at the college level. His top school choices right now are Friends University and Newman University, so he can be close to home in Kansas. He already knows the coaches there and likes the facilities at both universities. Over the next year, his goals are to make the varsity team, improve his ability to attack the basket, and start dunking. His biggest strength is his defense, as he can guard all positions on the court, so he is committed to becoming a more complete offensive player. Long term, he hopes to play professionally, with aspirations of reaching the NBA.

Closing

In April, Thompson competed at the High School All-American Showcase in Kansas City, Missouri, where he embraced the opportunity to compete and gain exposure. He valued the coaching and skill development, particularly the focus on ball-handling, playing off screens, and getting shots up quickly. Most importantly, he wanted to show that he is a player who defends at a high level and always has his teammates' backs. With his determination and commitment to growth, Brixton Thompson is continuing to build a strong foundation for his future in basketball.
