Introduction
Dequan Johnson is a dynamic shooting guard continuing to elevate his game at Percy Julian High School in Montgomery, Alabama. Standing at 5’10” as part of the Class of 2027, Johnson has established himself as one of the most productive players in his area. Known for his scoring ability and leadership, he plays a major role in his team’s success while setting the standard for work ethic on and off the court.

Background
Johnson's basketball journey began when he was just 5 years old. Throughout his journey, he has been guided by the support and motivation of his parents. They taught him the importance of hard work and dedication at a young age, and he still holds those values closely today. Those lessons have shaped him into not only a talented player but also a disciplined student-athlete who understands the bigger picture beyond the game.
Development
This season at Percy Julian, Johnson performed extremely well individually. He averaged 29 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals per game as a starter on varsity for the second straight year. His development is fueled by an intense training routine. Every morning before school, he puts up 200 shots in the gym. During free periods, he either runs on the track or gets more shots up in the gym; he even stays late after school to refine specific skills like shooting with his off-hand. In the offseason, he continues that same grind through travel basketball and consistent gym work, ensuring his game continues to evolve year-round.
Influences
Johnson's mother has been the biggest influence in his basketball journey, providing him with constant encouragement and guidance. She emphasizes maintaining a positive attitude, working hard, and taking academics just as seriously as basketball. Johnson also serves as a captain for his school team and ensures his teammates stay disciplined, follow expectations, and remain accountable.
Goals
Looking ahead, Johnson has high aspirations for his future. He wants to play college basketball and then in the NBA. Schools like Duke, Alabama, Texas, and Kentucky stand out to him because of their strong cultures and player development. On the court, he wants to improve his strength so he can match up with bigger, more physical opponents. Johnson believes that his scoring and basketball IQ are his biggest strengths. As soon as he receives the ball, he is able to see the entire court and find an open teammate.
Closing
Earlier this year, Johnson competed in the High School All-American Showcase in Birmingham, Alabama. He enjoyed the opportunity to play against other top high school athletes and adapted quickly to new teammates. He trusted them to make plays and looked to get them the ball while also proving that he is a capable scorer. For the college coaches and scouts in attendance, Johnson hopes they saw how hard he works and his passion for the game. With his production, leadership, and relentless drive, Dequan Johnson is proving that his game and his future are only continuing to rise.
