Introduction
Khyre Burnette is a resilient point guard who continues to pursue his goals at Rich Township High School in Richton Park, Illinois. Standing at 5’10” as part of the Class of 2027, Burnette brings toughness, confidence, and a team-first mindset to the court. Despite facing setbacks in his high school career, he remains committed to proving himself and continuing his development as a player.

Background
Burnette’s basketball journey began at just three years old, and the game has been a constant in his life ever since. While his high school career started strong with successful freshman and sophomore seasons, he faced a major challenge this year after not being selected for the school team. Burnette used that as motivation to work harder and stay focused on his long-term goals. He also plays baseball in addition to basketball, having played two years of varsity baseball and helping his team win a championship this season.
Development
Burnette’s work ethic is evident in his training routine. During the season, he has daily team practices, followed by a run around his neighborhood. Then, he gets up shots for at least an hour, followed by rest, and then shooting for 30-40 more minutes. On days off, he spends 4–5 hours at the recreation center, competing in pickup games and continuing to sharpen his skills. During the offseason, he goes to the rec center as soon as it opens at 12:00 PM and stays there until they close at 8:00. Physically, he has grown from being undersized and thin into a stronger, more confident player through consistent training and dedication.
Influences
Throughout his journey, Burnette has leaned on mentors and family who believe in his potential. One of them has been his freshman coach, Coach Walker, who trusted him with leadership responsibilities on both ends of the floor, as well as Coach Frank, who recognized his ability to compete at higher levels during his sophomore year. His family has also motivated him to keep working hard and improve the weaknesses in his game. He draws inspiration from NBA players like Derrick Rose, Kyrie Irving, and Anthony Edwards — guards known for their skill and creativity.
Goals
After high school, Burnette wants to play college basketball and eventually reach the NBA. Schools like the University of Illinois, Illinois State, UIC, and Northwestern stand out to him as programs that can help him grow. On the court, his goal is to improve his three-point shooting, which he sees as the final piece needed to elevate his already well-rounded game. Over the next year, his goals are to stay confident and continue improving his jump shot.
Closing
In October 2025, Burnette attended the High School All-American Showcase in Chicago, an experience that tested both his confidence and resilience. The day before the showcase, his confidence was very low, and he told his mom he didn't want to go. She strongly encouraged him, and as a result, he attended the event and rediscovered his belief in himself. Competing alongside new teammates, he adjusted his game, shifting from a pass-first approach to being more aggressive when needed. Through drills and live gameplay, he showcased his ball-handling, finishing, and competitive edge. More importantly, he demonstrated something deeper, his heart. As Burnette puts it, it’s “heart over height,” and that mindset continues to drive him forward as he works toward the next chapter of his journey.
