Background

Rupert's basketball journey began in third grade, when his father introduced him to the game. His father taught him multiple sports as a kid, but basketball became the one that stuck with him the most. His passion for the game continued to grow, leading him to commit more seriously to his development as he advanced through middle school and into high school competition.

Development

This past season, Rupert played on both junior varsity and varsity. His development is driven by a consistent training routine — getting up shots every morning before school, followed by team practices and additional sessions with private trainers. In the offseason, he dedicates more time to skill development and strength training. That commitment has helped him improve physically, especially after early challenges with handling physicality and learning how to use his body effectively on the court.

Influences

Rupert credits much of his growth to the guidance of his AAU coach, Scott Pizor, who has helped him identify areas for improvement and push his game forward. His trainer, Markel Crawford, has also played a key role, emphasizing the importance of playing through contact and finishing strong at the rim. Rupert also looks up to players like Cooper Flagg, Anthony Edwards, and Luka Dončić, drawing inspiration from their skill sets and approach to the game.

Goals

Looking ahead, Rupert has clear goals for his future. He wants to play Division I college basketball, with Duke currently being his top choice. Over the next year, he is aiming to earn First Team All-District honors while continuing to develop his all-around skill set. On the court, he is working to improve his ball-handling and finishing ability, while continuing to rely on his strengths of hustle, rebounding, and defense to make an impact.

Closing

In March, Rupert competed at the High School All-American Showcase in Dallas, Texas, where he had the opportunity to test his skills against strong competition. He embraced the chance to connect with new teammates and compete in a high-level environment. More importantly, he focused on showcasing his effort, defensive presence, and ability to contribute in multiple ways. With his size, work ethic, and commitment to improvement, Luke Rupert is continuing to build a foundation that positions him for future success on the court.
