Introduction
Marcus Simmons is a promising guard prospect continuing to establish himself at East Wake High School in Wendell, North Carolina. Standing at 6'2" as part of the Class of 2028, Simmons has already shown strong potential with his shooting ability, work ethic, and determination to improve every aspect of his game. As he continues adjusting to the varsity level, Simmons remains focused on developing into a complete player capable of competing at the next level.

Background
Originally from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Simmons started playing basketball when he was four years old. He quickly fell in love with the excitement and energy of the game after watching basketball on television. Ever since then, he has remained committed to improving and pushing himself to become the best player possible.
Development
This past season, Simmons had a strong individual year while helping his team continue to grow. Although the team faced challenges overall, Simmons felt they improved significantly as the season progressed. During the season, his training routine involved daily skill work, weightlifting on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and conditioning on weekends. In the offseason, he increases his focus on strength training by lifting three to four times per week while continuing to stay in shape through practices and competitive runs at the park. One challenge Simmons has faced is the difficulty adjusting to varsity basketball, but he has embraced the process and continues working every day to improve.
Influences
Simmons credits much of his development to his AAU coach, who constantly pushes him to work harder and improve mentally and physically. He also mentioned that his coaches have helped build his mental toughness and motivated him to continue growing as a player. Currently, Simmons is focused on improving his ability to score at all three levels, rebound consistently, and use his length more effectively on defense. He believes his biggest strength right now is his three-point shooting ability.
Goals
Looking ahead, Simmons hopes to play college basketball at the Division II level or higher after high school. His dream schools are Duke, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Michigan. Over the next year, his goals are to improve his scoring ability and become more aggressive on defense. Long-term, Simmons hopes to maximize his potential as a player and eventually compete professionally in the NBA or overseas.
Closing
In March, Simmons attended the High School All-American Showcase in Greensboro, North Carolina. He said it was a great experience where he received valuable advice from the coaches that he plans to apply moving forward. For the coaches and scouts in attendance, he hopes they noticed his shooting and all-around impact on the court. As he continues developing his game, Marcus Simmons is a name to watch in the Class of 2028.
