Background

Melchor's basketball journey began when he was only five years old, and he has loved the sport ever since. Learning to dribble and develop his skills made him want to pursue basketball further. His passion for the game has continued to grow over the years, shaping his commitment to improving and competing at a high level.

Development

This season, Melchor averaged 15 points per game as a starter on varsity, and the team relied upon him heavily and asked him to take on a large role. With that responsibility came pressure, but Melchor embraced it, believing he was built for those high-pressure moments. His development is driven by consistency — practicing most days during the season and using off days to train with his coach and get additional work in the gym. Even in the offseason, he maintains that same mindset, focusing on making steady, incremental improvements every day.

Influences

Melchor credits much of his growth to his trainer, Tre Bennett, and former high school coach, Colby Ebrom. Both of them have played significant roles in pushing him to reach his full potential as a player. Coach Ebrom, in particular, showed a strong commitment to his development by spending extra time in the gym with him, reinforcing the importance of hard work and dedication.

Goals

Looking ahead, Melchor wants to continue his basketball career at the college level and is open to any opportunity he can get. Schools like the University of Houston, Texas State, and the University of Texas stand out to him, with Houston’s defensive identity especially appealing. Over the next year, he is focused on improving his defense, vertical jumping, and basketball IQ, while maintaining his strengths of shooting, finishing, and ball-handling. Long- term, his goal is to play professionally, whether that path leads to the NBA or overseas.

Closing

In March, Melchor competed at the High School All-American Showcase in Dallas, Texas, where he embraced the opportunity to compete against talented players and showcase his abilities. He quickly built chemistry with new teammates and took on a leadership role throughout the event. Most importantly, he wanted to showcase his passing, basketball IQ, and shooting to college coaches and scouts. With his confidence, leadership, and commitment to improvement, Nathan Melchor continues to build toward a promising future in the game.
