Introduction
Quenton Washington is a versatile wing continuing to build his game at Palo Duro High School in Amarillo, Texas. Standing at 6’6” as part of the Class of 2027, Washington brings size, defensive versatility, and a relentless mindset to the shooting guard and small forward positions. Even after facing adversity, he remains focused on becoming a complete player ready for the next level.
Background
Washington began playing basketball in fifth grade, but his journey didn't start with immediate success. In his first AAU season, he scored just two points the entire season, so he made a commitment to improve and told his father he would do whatever it takes to get better. That moment became a turning point, sparking the work ethic and passion that continue to define his game today.
Development
Washington’s development has been shaped by both discipline and resilience. He tore his ACL last April and missed the entire season this year. However, he has attacked the recovery process with determination — focusing on rebuilding strength, explosiveness, and confidence in his body. He views the setback as a “blessing in disguise,” using it to grow mentally and physically. During a typical basketball season, his training routine involves waking up at 4:30 in the morning and going to the gym to lift. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, he works on the upper body, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays, he does the lower body. Then, he will go to the courts to get up 500 shots and work on his ball-handling. That level of commitment continues in the offseason, laying the foundation for his return.
Influences
Washington credits his father as his biggest influence, someone who has been by his side through every workout and moment of adversity. His trainer, Melvin Baker, has also played a major role in his development since seventh grade, helping him sharpen the skills needed to compete at a high level. He draws inspiration from players like Kobe Bryant, embracing the “Mamba Mentality,” and Jayson Tatum, whose comeback from a torn Achilles motivates Washington as he works toward his own return.
Goals
Looking ahead, Washington aspires to play college basketball. His top choices right now are Texas Tech and Houston, with Houston standing out because of their defensive identity. Over the next year, his goals are to receive an official college offer and break his school’s record for most three-pointers in a season. On the court, he is working to improve his ball-handling and ability to push the ball in transition, while continuing to rely on his greatest strength — his defense and his ability to guard all five positions on the court. Long-term, his goal is to play professionally, whether in the NBA or overseas, and prove he belongs after being overlooked for most of his life.
Closing
In March, Washington competed at the High School All-American Showcase in Dallas, Texas, where he embraced the chance to compete against strong talent and connect with college coaches. He valued the opportunity to learn and grow, while showcasing his ability to see the floor, create for teammates, and score when needed. More importantly, he demonstrated resilience, determination, and a mindset built through adversity. With his size, work ethic, and hunger to prove himself, Quenton Washington is a name to watch as he continues his journey back to the court.
