Background

Gueche's basketball journey started later than most players; he began playing the sport three years ago. Introduced to basketball by his father, he quickly developed a passion for the sport, further fueled by watching highlights of NBA star Paul George. In a short period of time, Gueche has made significant progress as a player. He has gone from a player fighting for minutes on his middle school team to one of the top players on his high school team.

Development

That rapid growth translated into an impressive freshman season, where Gueche earned a starting role and averaged 18 points per game against older, more experienced competition. One of his best performances came against rival school Fort Lee, when he scored 14 points, 12 coming in the second half, and hit the game-winning buzzer-beater. Moments like that highlight not just his scoring ability, but his confidence and ability to perform under pressure. During the season, his training routine involves daily team practices followed by additional shooting work at home. In the offseason, he trains with his father, plays in pick-up games at the park, and works a lot on improving his ball-handling.

Influences

Gueche credits his father as his biggest influence, not only for introducing him to the game but also for motivating him to pursue his full potential. His father's basketball experiences have inspired him to become a great player and carry on the family legacy. He also draws inspiration from NBA players like Paul George, as well as star point guards Cade Cunningham and Jalen Brunson, whose games he studies closely as he continues to develop his own style.

Goals

Looking ahead, Gueche has high aspirations for his future. He wants to play college basketball at a Division I school, with UNC being his top choice due to its strong basketball history and style of play. In the short term, he wants to average at least 25 points per game, while also increasing his rebound and assist averages and taking on more point guard responsibilities. Additionally, he is focused on improving his ability to finish at the rim, adding another dimension to his already strong scoring ability. Long term, his goal is to play professionally, whether in the NBA or overseas.

Closing

In March, Gueche competed at the High School All-American Showcase in Manalapan, New Jersey, where he stood out during drills with his ball-handling and quickly adapted to new teammates during games. Encouraged to stay confident and keep shooting, he embraced the moment and continued to display his offensive skill set. More importantly, he demonstrated the mindset of a scorer who believes in his ability regardless of the situation. With his rapid development, natural scoring ability, and growing confidence, Tristan Gueche is proving that his rise is just getting started.
