Background

Hailing from Los Angeles, California, Arthon started playing basketball at just four years old through his mom’s Royal Basketball School. That early environment helped him learn the fundamentals of the game while building confidence from a young age. As the years went on, he stayed committed to basketball through elementary school, middle school, and now high school, eventually falling in love with the sport and the process of improving.

Development

This past season, Troy's former school, Chaminade, won over 20 games, and although the team narrowly missed the playoffs, Arthon felt they played well together throughout the year. As a starter on varsity, he contributed as a scorer and rebounder, helping lead his team through a successful season. During the season, practices begin at 6 a.m. before school, followed by a basketball class during the day and additional team practice afterward. In the offseason, he maintains that same structure while adding more individual workouts focused on shooting and skill development. One of his biggest challenges early on was developing coordination and ball-handling as he grew into his height. Through patience and consistent work, he has steadily improved those areas of his game.

Influences

Arthon credits several mentors and trainers for helping shape his development. One of them is a former University of Virginia player and National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) member, Jeff Lamp, who has worked with him extensively on his overall game. Another key influence is Jason Crowe, who worked closely with him during AAU and helped build his foundation as a player. Additionally, former USC player Craig Slaughter has helped Arthon improve his shooting form. Lastly, he mentioned his uncle, former NBA lottery pick Yaroslav Korolev, who continues to mentor and train him at a high level. Each of these mentors has helped him grow on and off the court.

Goals

Looking ahead, Arthon wants to play Division I college basketball and then professionally in the NBA. His current top school choices are Virginia and Wake Forest. On the court, Arthon is focused on continuing to improve his ball-handling and ability to handle defensive pressure, while building on his strengths as a shooter, playmaker, and rebounder. Over the next year, his goals are to make the ESPN 60 rankings for the Class of 2028 and help lead St. John Bosco to an Open Division championship. Long-term, he wants to become the best player he can be and make it to the highest level possible.

Closing

In April, Arthon attended the High School All-American Showcase in Los Angeles, California. He enjoyed the opportunity to gain exposure and compete against other talented athletes in his area. For the coaches and scouts in attendance, he hopes they noticed his defense and rebounding to complement his already strong scoring and playmaking abilities. With his size, versatility, and commitment to development, Troy Arthon continues to emerge as one of the more intriguing prospects in the Class of 2028.
